Concern Raised Over Hezbollah-Linked Appointment in Lebanon’s Reconstruction Efforts

Washington, D.C. – The Amer Foundation along with the American Mideast Coalition for Democracy, the Builders group, and other Lebanese American organizations have expressed serious concerns regarding the recent appointment of former Lebanese Minister Ali Hamieh as an advisor for reconstruction affairs to President Joseph Aoun of Lebanon.

Mr. Hamieh, who previously served as Minister of Public Works, is reportedly affiliated with Hezbollah—a U.S.-designated foreign terrorist organization. His appointment raises alarm over the continued integration of individuals with Hezbollah ties into Lebanon’s government and public institutions.

The Fakhoury family is urging the U.S. government to carefully scrutinize all reconstruction-related funding and financial assistance to Lebanon, to ensure that no U.S. taxpayer dollars benefit individuals or entities associated with Hezbollah.

“This appointment is deeply troubling,” the family stated. “Hezbollah continues to operate as a parallel power in Lebanon, using coercion and threats to maintain its influence. Our family has personally faced threats believed to be linked to Hezbollah. Other Americans, including Charles Chartouni, were forced to flee Lebanon due to similar intimidation and remain in exile.”

The family is calling on the U.S. government to take concrete steps to ensure accountability in Lebanon and to consider suspending U.S. aid until there is credible reform and assurance that public funds are not diverted to malign actors.
