Amer Fakhoury: A True Hero

In 2000, Amer and his family fled Lebanon due to war and turmoil in their hometown. Invading terrorists were killing their neighbors and loved ones and political tension was high. He came to America to find peace and hope for a better future for his wife and four girls.

The Epitome of the American Dream

Every single day Amer and his wife worked hard to put their four girls through college. They opened a small restaurant called “Little Lebanon To Go” and this became one of the top Middle Eastern restaurants in New Hampshire. Amer came from nothing, to a country that he knew very little about, and built his own empire for his family.

Bittersweet Memories

I took this picture of him just as I had woken up and found that he had shoveled my car, as well as my sister’s car, out of the snow. That’s the kind of man he was. He would wake up 2 hours before we had to go to work to get our cars out and make sure the heat was turned on so by the time we were done getting ready for work, our cars were all clean and warm.

One of our favorite family moments is drinking coffee in the morning. Even if one of us wasn’t home, we would make sure to FaceTime when we woke up to have our cup of coffee together. The morning he passed away, my mother and sisters’ and I were all gathered around his hospital bed. Around 5 am on Monday, August 17th, I asked my mom if she thought he would make it until breakfast. At 6 am I went downstairs to the hospital cafe and got all of us coffee. That was the last cup of coffee we all enjoyed together. The minute my mother took her last sip, my father opened his eyes for second and gave her a soft smile and then closed his eyes for the last time.

“Words cannot describe how dearly Amer Fakhoury is missed. He was such a strong and determined individual who always did what was right. He knew what it felt like to enter a country not knowing anything, and so he made it a mission to help any foreigner he encountered, and opened his restaurant and home to them. He had a huge heart that never gave up on people”
